Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Millersville

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a doubleheader against Millersville on Monday afternoon winning game one by a score of 3-0 and taking game two, 9-0.

In game one, the Huskies took a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) led off with a double down the leftfield line. Jennifer Miller (Muir/Williams Valley) then singled Reed to third and went to second on the throw back in. Lisa Bohner (Northumberland/Shikellamy) then flied to deep left scoring Reed with the first run of the game.

Millersville threatened in the top of the second inning getting runners at second and third with one out. However, Reed fanned the next two batters to escape the jam.

Neither team threatened again till the bottom of the sixth inning when Miller singled and moved to second on a bunt by Bohner. After a strikeout, Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) hit a towering drive over the leftfield fence to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Reed then retired the Marauders in order in the top of the seventh to earn her 10th win of the season.

In the first inning of game two, Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) launched a two run homerun while Corliss added an RBI double to give the Huskies an early 3-0 lead.

The Huskies scored six runs in the second inning, with Kelly Zarski (Paxinos/Danville) leading off the inning with a solo homerun. Bachert added another two RBI on a single while Courtney Rhone (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) knocked in a run with a double to give Bloomsburg a 9-0 lead that would hold.

Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) picked up the shutout win for the Huskies (25-9, 8-2 PSAC East) for her 10th victory of the season. In five innings of work, she allowed just two hits while striking out one and walking two.

Erin Hepner and Shaina Briel had the only hits for Millersville (19-11, 4-4 PSAC East) in game two.

Bloomsburg's Wednesday doubleheader against Felician College has been postponed. No make up date has been announced. The Huskies will next be in action when they travel to East Stroudsburg on Friday for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
